  1. Add a native Windows 8 app

Now that windows 8 is out it would be nice to have a windows 8 application instead of using the web based version. Something more native to the functionality of windows 8. Touch controls would be nice for windows 8 tablets. My kid's school is requiring a windows 8 tablet and it would be a nice added feature.

  2. Provide an option to review my child's emails before they are sent to others

I would like to be able to read and review my child's emails before they are sent out. Sometimes children do not realize that what they intend to type is not always the same as it can be read. Being able to approve or deny outgoing messages would be great. It would give parents the opportunity to have the email revised by their child if needed.

We have decided that this is not a function we will be adding in the near future.

We do have it listed as a possible idea for a future release, but have decided we won’t be making the changes to Kids Email to have this function.

We appreciate you submitting this great idea, and if we meet at a later date and decide to add it we will let you know.

    Regards,
    Brittany

  3. Allow parent to specify "other file types" they wish to allow instead/in addition to the "catch-all" checkbox.

Instead of the catch-all checkbox to allow "all other file types", allow parent to pick/choose via a text box entry (maybe "separated by commas" ?) what file types they are looking to allow that are not listed. For example, I use an app called Spellboard by palasoftware.com and I can email the kids their spelling lists, but it's a proprietary file type with extension. sbq. Currently I cannot do this through their Kmail accounts. I'm sure there are other reasons to enable such a feature. Granular control is very desirable.

Thank you for the suggestion. Right now we do not have any plans to change this, so you will have to just select to allow all attachments. If we decide to change this, we will let you know but for now we will not be making this change.

  4. Option to Email Entire Contact List

my daughter, 8, would like to be able to send regular updates to her entire contact list. your program limits the number of recipients. wouldn't this be a simple fix that would make it much easier for her to stay in touch with all of her relatives? thanks!

  5. Create an app for the Mac (desktop/laptop)

We have an iMac as a "family computer" where each child has a user account. Since we can't add the kmail accounts to their individual user's "mail" utility as a POP/IMAP account, can we at least get a mail app that also notifies them of new messages in their inbox and then opens to their account login page or inbox? I checked the Mac App Store and could not find a Kmail/Kids Email app. Thanks for all you are doing... it is a great service!

  6. Allow for contacts to be grouped.

This would be very helpful as kids often have "teams" for different projects/classes.

  7. Draft email folder

It would be great if there was an option for emails to go into a draft folder to finish at a later time or for a parent to preview before the email is sent.

We have decided that this is not something that will be added in the immediate future. We will look at this for a future release, but not at this time. My apologies to those that were hoping it would be coming out right away.

  8. Enable pop, smtp, and/or imap access.

The ability to use with facebook or an ipad is not the same as enabling pop, smtp, and/or imap access. Please implement these too.

  9. support sending emails using the iOS built in mail app.

On iOS I can use your app to send and receive emails but if I click on an email link from some other app, it will only support the default mail app. Other apps (like Pages) support sending documents via email. The problem is they only support sending using the default mail app.

I'd like to be able to configure the default mail app to send and receive emails using the kmail.org service - that is, with the filtering and protection provided by kids email.

  10. support custom domains

We have our own domain for the grownups - mom@family.com and dad@family.com. We'd like to get the safety of Kids Email for now but at some point the kids will be old enough to not need this service. We don't want them having to switch their email address. With other services like this we've been able to create an account on our domain (kid@family.com) and have it forward all messages to the other service. We tried this with Kids Email and it doesn't work.

The details: we use Google Apps to manage our domain. I tried setting…

This is something we have considered in the past. At this time we do not plan on implementing this. I will send the suggestion over to the Developer, and if we decide to implement this I will let you know.

    Thanks,
    Brittany

  11. Calendar functionality

Similar to google calendar. A kid should be able to have a calendar, view/edit/etc, and accept calendar invitations via kidsemail.

  12. Make different contact lists.

My daughter has friends she e-mails that are in her girl scout troop and would like to be able to send out a mass e-mail to those in that list as she is the secretary this quarter. Would also be nice to have a family list and and a school friend/teacher list.

They seem to be fixed in MM-DD-YYYY format, regardless of the country specified when setting up an account.

  15. kids need notification that they got mail to eliminate the need to always check if they have mail

It would be neat for kids to have a symbol or message stating they got new mail on there sign in page at desktop

  16. Implement Safe Chat

My child does not have enough ways to interact. I suggest adding safe, chat rooms to kmail teens that can connect to gmail. This would help a lot!

After much consideration, we have decided that we will not be adding a chat function to Kids Email. KidsEmail chat would only work with other KidsEmail users, so children wouldn’t be able to chat with users that don’t have a kids email account. We may revisit this in the future, but for now we are not planning on adding this feature.
